Aurelio Voltraire has been a staple in the goth community since 1998 with the release of his first full length album, The Devil’s Bris. Another twelve albums followed, with 2025’s Summer Surf being his most recent.
Initially the artist was known for his music, which is a unique blend of dark cabaret, folk, and horror punk. However, over the life of his career he has accomplished much, much more. Voltaire is an accomplished writer, with books including What is Goth? (2004) and Paint it Black: A Guide to Gothic Homemaking (2005). In 1997 Voltaire both wrote and illustrated a six issue comic book series titled Chi-Chian. Following up the graphic novel series, he then created a flash animated web series of the same name.
Now the pivotal pioneer of a goth blend all his own has something new cooking. As of 2026 he can add feature film director and actor to his resume! This past weekend in Orlando, Florida, Voltaire screened his new movie The Demonatrix at Spooky Empire’s SummerWeen convention.
A Cult Classic in the Making
Aurelio Voltaire co-directed The Demonatrix with Jeff Ferrell (Holiday Hell). He also stepped into the shoes of the lead character, Father Veto. Hannah Fierman (V/H/S) and Doug Bradley (Hellraiser) co-star alongside in this horror-comedy.

As for the premise, well… it’s one that fits perfectly into the world Voltaire. In fact, horror-comedy has the potential for being one of the strongest cult classics of modern time. The Demonatrix has the tongue-in-cheek vibe that is reminiscent of 1975’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It also has the capability of invoking audience participation with the witty dialogue.
A Tale of Good vs Evil… and Bondage?
Catholic priest Father Veto lives in the basement of his church. Next door lives Lita (Hannah Fierman), a beautiful blonde who the priest refuses to admit he has a crush on. Afterall, a man of the cloth can’t harbor such thoughts.
However, unbeknownst to him Lita is a professional dominatrix, and business isn’t paying the rent like it used to. For Lita it is time to explore a new avenue of revenue.

After contemplating with her loyal house slave Rhett (Jeff Ferrell), Lita decides the best way to make a quick buck is to pose as a spiritual medium. In her living room she will conduct séances to anyone gullible enough to be roped in.
Once Father Veto catches wind of his beautiful neighbor’s side gig, he desperately tries to discourage her from following through. He downright pleads with her, warning Lita of the dangers that can be unleashed when one dabbles in the occult.
Unfortunately his warnings fall on skeptical ears, and Lita follows through with her intentions. During her first séance she unintentionally summons an incubus (Kevin ‘ohGr’ Ogilvie) that plagues her in her sleep. Not only does the demon infiltrate her sleep, but Father Veto’s as well.

Ever the skeptic, Lita refuses to acknowledge the demonic influence in her life, and refuses Father Veto’s help. The dismayed and conflicted priest seeks the help of friend and mentor, Edward (Doug Bradley). With a renewed sense of strength and commitment to helping his damsel in distress, he goes to war with the incubus in a good vs evil showdown for the ages. Who will come out on top?
An Instant Cult Classic
The Demonatrix is an unholy union of a demonic horror and comedy set in the home of a dominatrix. There is no other way to spin it, and Voltaire knows it. The artist is precisely aware what type of movie this is, and he leans into it, hard.

In this movie, Voltaire has struck a balance melding the genres and plot elements. It’s insane, but it works! If he was to tip too far into the horror, or too far into the comedic elements, the whole project would have toppled over. However, the musician successfully blended a well written script, religious lore, the right actors, and a visual FX department that understood his vision.
The stars must surely have been aligned for all of these elements to come together the way they did. Or maybe Voltaire was thumbing through some incantations of his own when researching material for the movie…
Road to Release
Currently Voltaire is on the road with The Demonatrix, screening it in select cities at conventions, festivals, and special screenings. As he gains momentum it is his goal to find streaming and theatrical release distributors.
