Since 2006, the Center for Fiction has been highlighting the best debut novels of the year through its First Novel Prize. This year’s 180 eligible titles were published in the US between January 1st and December 31st, and were narrowed down to 19 books by more than 500 writers, librarians, booksellers, and others. The shortlist will be announced in the fall, and in early December, the winning author will receive $15,000, while each shortlisted author will receive $1,000. Rebecca Yarros has announced the fourth addition to the mega-bestselling Empyrean series on Instagram. The book is titled Threshing Day and will be available on September 29th this year. Threshing Day is a little different from the other books in the series, though. It is not a sequel to the third book, Onyx Storm. #1 on the nonfiction Indie Bestseller list this week is Communion by bell hooks, which shares a title with the new JD Vance book. That’s no accident: a grassroots campaign encouraged readers to pick up the bell hooks title, and it worked. It got to the #12 bestseller spot in The New York Times and was the #1 bestseller on Bookshop.org. The publisher said sales on the title are up 1,000% since last year.
