Shocking video shows an acrobat plummeting to the ground in front of horrified spectators during a daring mid-air circus performance.
Aliane Dias was performing a routine in which she’s suspended in the air by just her hair when she came loose during Saturday night’s show in Miracema, northeast of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, according to Jam Press.
Heart-stopping video shows Dias in a pink dress as she was hoisted up to twirl in the air — before she crashed into the stage below with a horrible thud as the audience screamed in horror.
Paramedics rushed over to help her before she was carried out on a stretcher.
The circus, Circo Robatiny, said the next day that the acrobat “was quickly rescued” and taken for “prompt and effective care.”
The circus blamed the fall on Dias rather than on an equipment failure.
“In this act, she is suspended by her hair from a steel cable, and the artist herself is responsible for tying it according to protocol,” Circo Robatiny said.
“The reason is still unknown; we are awaiting her return and full recovery to learn more details.”
Despite the terrifying accident, the troupe carried on with its next show the following evening as scheduled.
