It was a holiday. Outside, children spilled into yards and streets, running with sparklers, calling to each other, their laughter cutting through the warm air. Families gathered on porches. Everyone was celebrating. My son was not outside. He lay in bed, in a darkened room, unable to tolerate the noise, the light, the movement of his own body. The celebration happening just beyond our walls might as well have been on another planet. So often, over the years since my children developed neuroimmune conditions, I felt hollow. There was a hole inside me that nothing could fill. I tried everything:…
Another year has come to an end, and another batch of horror movies has been added to the Letterboxd archive. It seems like just yesterday we were disappointed by The Wolf Man but inspired by Sinners. Rinse and repeat, as 2026 already looks like a bumper crop of horror movies that will make our “most anticipated” lists (there’s always one on their that disappoints). Another Evil Dead? Yes, please. A Silent Hill reboot? We’ll take it. Ghostface returning to Woodsboro? What took them so long? Below is a list of notable 2026 horror movie releases, along with their trailers if…
High-performing founding teams handle conflict differently. They fight just as much as everyone else, they’ve just learned to make disagreements productive instead of destructive. This isn’t speculation. It’s based on six years coaching hundreds of founding teams through communication breakdowns. I’ve worked with bootstrapped social media influencers, advertising agencies, and founders backed by Y Combinator and Andreessen Horowitz. Speed Kills Connection Successful founders move fast. You’ve built speed into everything: how you think, how you talk, how you decide. This velocity is your competitive advantage. This velocity works for operations. But when conflict gets emotional, speed becomes your enemy. And…
Now that all of us are interconnected, creators have to think of unique ways to interact with their target audiences. An emerging trend has been to use Reddit’s Ask Me Anything feature. Recently, producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti did just this to discuss IT: Welcome to Derry. Unfortunately, the executive producers didn’t have time to answer all of the fan questions. However, the few tidbits of information that were given should make horror fans hopeful for the future. Likely the most exciting news is that Andy still plans to combine IT and IT: Chapter Two into one giant film filled…
To heck with it. I’m done. Bah humbug. Well not quite…but I am rethinking the holiday mania and realizing that rather than beating myself up for not living up to Hallmark expectations of what the holidays should look like, maybe I need to rethink what is reasonable. After all, a big part of psychological resilience depends on whether we experience our lives as being under our individual control. When it comes to making the holidays merry and bright, it feels like we have lost touch with the fact that expectations are social constructions. They are mostly in our minds, reinforced…

A 2021 study published in Scientific Reports explored how the way we talk to ourselves, either positively or negatively, impacts brain function and cognitive performance. Researchers used fMRI brain scans and a problem-solving test to compare two types of self-talk. The findings from the study were two-fold: Negative self-talk was found to have a positive impact and lead to better performance on the second round of the test. This happened possibly because it created a state of heightened attention and internal motivation. People became more alert and focused after criticizing themselves. Positive self-talk was linked to changes in brain connectivity…
I discovered my first Great Lie in third grade. We took 100-question timed math quizzes on Fridays, and I was determined to win the much-coveted prize: a trip to the front of the room to pick a round pin for your backpack (or, if you were a nerd like me, your shirt). One Friday, I was on question 99 when Ms. Foley rang the bell. “Time’s up!” I felt it in my stomach. I knew it in my heart. I shouldn’t do it—but I did it anyway. I filled in question 100. And I got them all right. Ms. Foley…
Move over Halloween Horror Nights, Santa is coming to town! Well… sort of. Many of us experience Halloween drop as we head into mid November, revived briefly by holiday horror movies or local Krampus events. But that void inside still exists, and it is lonely and hollow. Only a house of gore and jump scares […]
