Former cricketer Aakash Chopra blind ranked India’s top T20 World Cup moments (via Star Sports) ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. The marquee event is set to begin on February 7.
Aakash Chopra ranked Virat Kohli’s iconic shot of the century, the magnificent six off Haris Rauf against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup, at number three. He placed S Sreesanth’s catch in the final of the 2007 edition at the top spot. Sreesanth took the catch of Misbah-Ul-Haq as India went on to win the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup.
The former cricketer then ranked Kohli’s unbeaten match-winning 82 off 51 balls against Australia at Mohali during the 2016 T20 World Cup at number five. He placed Suryakumar Yadav’s unbelievable catch in the final of the 2024 edition at number two. Suryakumar Yadav took the crucial catch of David Miller, which changed the course of the game as India went on to win the trophy.
Finally, Aakash Chopra placed Yuvraj Singh’s iconic six sixes in an over during the 2007 edition at the fourth spot. Yuvraj had smashed Stuart Broad for six maximums in an over against England, creating history.
Aakash Chopra on India dropping Shubman Gill from T20 World Cup 2026 squad
India are the defending champions heading into the T20 World Cup 2026, having won the previous edition in 2024. The Men in Blue will be keen to defend their title. Ahead of the tournament, they made a massive call by dropping Shubman Gill from the squad.
Gill was India’s T20I vice-captain but found himself missing from the 15-player list for the marquee event. The right-hander struggled in T20Is in 2025, scoring just 291 runs from 15 games at an average of 24.25 and a strike rate of 137.26 without a half-century.
Aakash Chopra called it a brave move but also praised the management for making the right decision and correcting their mistake.
“Shubman Gill was the vice-captain earlier, and now he is not even part of the team. It’s never too late to make a change. You shouldn’t feel ashamed while doing the right thing. Why should one be stubborn? Sometimes one sticks to it because there will be public humiliation,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“This selection committee said they are not stubborn, that if they had made a mistake, they have corrected it. However, many other things have changed while correcting that mistake. The team looks totally changed. It is a bold move. It is a very brave move. Looks like a right move, but many lives have been impacted,” he added.
India will begin their campaign against the United States of America (USA) on February 7.
