The New York Times, in collaboration with the New York Public Library, have announced their best illustrated children’s books of 2025. Ten winners were selected from 800 entries. The panel of judges included award-winning illustrator Peter Sís, children’s and middle grade book author Tracey Baptiste, and children’s librarian Amber Moller.
Four of the selected titles are works in translation, showcasing the talent of global creators. Several of the books are solo projects, meaning that the writer and illustrator are one and the same.
Books were judged solely on their artistic merit. You’ll find a feast for the eyes, whether you’re reading these books for yourself or with the children in your life.
Here are some of the winners:
- Broken written and illustrated by X. Fang.
- Dragon Flower written and illustrated by Chen Jiang Hong; translated by Alyson Waters
- The Lighthouse Keeper written by Eugenio Fernández Vázquez and illustrated by Mariana Villanueva Segovia; translated by Kit Maude
- Little Rebels written and illustrated by Yuyi Morales
- Pencil written and illustrated by Hye-Eun Kim
