Mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday refused to say that Hamas should lay down its weapons — as he stood by his promise to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he comes to New York City.
The democratic socialist also refused to credit President Trump for brokering a cease-fire in Gaza, claiming it was “too early to do so.”
Mamdani, 33, went into the lion’s den for a highly anticipated interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, who pressed the vocal critic of Israel on the deal.
The anchor asked Mamdani if he’d give Trump credit.
“I think it’s too early to do so,” he said. “But if it proves to be something that is lasting, something that is durable, I think that’s where you go.”
Pressed on if Hamas should put down their weapons — a key pillar of the deal that the terror group has refused to accept — Mamdani tried to wiggle out of the line of questioning.
“I believe that any future here in New York City is one that we have to make sure that’s affordable for all,” the proud socialist pivoted.
“I don’t really have opinions about the future of Hamas and Israel beyond the question of justice and safety.”
Asked about his vow that, if elected, he’d order the NYPD to arrest Netanyahu, who has a warrant out from the International Criminal Court, Mamdani stood by the pledge.
He said he would “exhaust every legal option in front of me.”
MacCallum previewed the interview Wednesday on “Fox & Friends,” revealing she’d quiz Mamdani on the Gaza deal, public safety and taxing the rich.
She also hinted she’d press Mamdani to fulfill his promise to apologize for calling the NYPD “racist” back in 2020.
“He has said he no longer believes that,” she said. “Without getting too far down the road on where we want to go today, I think that’s one of the things we want to talk to him about.”
