A top AEW star could be the next opponent for AEW World Champion MJF. The Salt of the Earth will face Bandido on tonight’s Dynamite Maximum Carnage. If Maxwell defeats the current ROH World Champion, he will have a long line of contenders ahead of him. Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page might be ahead of everyone. Interestingly, Kenny Omega also confirmed that he would like to enter the contendership race.
The Best Bout Machine returned on Dynamite for the first time since New Year’s Smash. Last time, he interrupted MJF and teased going after his AEW World Championship. After that night, Omega returned tonight and confronted Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page. The Cowboy had just defeated Bryan Keith.
Kenny Omega said he wants to win back the AEW World Championship, just like Hangman and Swerve. The Cowboy then said, ‘May the best man win,’ if the three stars cross paths for a shot at gold. The latter also shook hands with The Cleaner.
Matt Hardy claims Kenny Omega should dethrone MJF
As one of the best wrestlers in the world, it would be unjust for Kenny Omega not to have another world title reign in AEW. The one and only reign he had was in 2021.
While speaking on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the veteran claimed that Kenny would be a great individual to replace MJF and reign as AEW World Champion.
“Do I think he could be in that position again? Of course, I think he’d be a great choice for AEW World Champion. I just think he needs to be utilized as smart as possible, and he’s also a good storyteller from the overall capacity, not just in the ring telling a story in the context within a match, but he is a good storyteller of whatever, a bigger, broader story.”
It remains to be seen who gets the shot at MJF’s championship: Omega, Strickland, or Page.
