Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has welcomed Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments on the club and himself. He urged the fans and the hierarchy to forget the past and only focus on what they can do to improve the club.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of the Tottenham clash, Amorim admitted that Ronaldo still has a massive impact at Manchester United. He added that the club have made several mistakes in recent years and said (via MEN):
“Of course, he knows, and he has a huge impact in everything he says. What we need to focus on is the future. We know that we as a club made a lot of mistakes in the past and we are trying to change that. Let’s not focus on what happened, let’s focus on what we are doing now and we are doing that. We are changing a lot of things in the structure, the way we do things and want the players to behave. We are doing that and we are improving, so let’s continue and forget the past.”
Ronaldo spoke to Piers Morgan earlier this week and said that Amorim needed time, as he would not perform a miracle at Manchester United in a short time. He said:
“He’s doing his best. What are you going to do? Miracles? Miracles is impossible. We say in Portugal, ‘miracles is only in Fatima’, and he’s not going to do miracles.”
Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United in 2009 for Real Madrid, but returned in 2021 after a short spell at Juventus. He terminated his contract in November 2022, after falling out with then-manager Erik ten Hag.
Ex-Manchester United star urged Cristiano Ronaldo to back Ruben Amorim
Former Manchester United star Nani spoke to Covers in October, and urged Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney to publicly support Ruben Amorim and the Red Devils. He claimed that the club needed some backing in the tough time, and said (via GOAL):
“Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney continue to be very important figures for Man Utd. They still inspire players at the club and the club needs the support at the moment.”
“Having players like those two in the future will be very difficult, but it’s great whenever they are asked about the club and they give their advice and their support. We all need to encourage the players, the manager and the fans to continue to believe we can turn everything around and be the club everyone used to see in the past.”
Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League last season, and are currently sitting eighth in the table this season after 10 matches.
