President Trump said Sunday that a peace deal to end the war in Gaza is in its “final stages,” according to an Axios report.
“Everybody has come together to get a deal, but we still have to get it done,” the president said in an interview, according to Axios.
Trump said a peace deal would “be the first chance for real peace” in the region, adding, “But we have to get it done first.”
On Friday night, the president touted “inspired and productive discussions” surrounding Israel’s war in Gaza.
“Intense negotiations have been going on for four days, and will continue for as long as necessary in order to get a Successfully Completed Agreement,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
“All of the Countries within the Region are involved, Hamas is very much aware of these discussions, and Israel has been informed at all levels, including Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu,” he added.
“There is more Goodwill and Enthusiasm for getting a Deal done, after so many decades, than I have ever seen before. Everyone is excited to put this period of Death and Darkness behind them.”
Israel’s war in Gaza, which began after Hamas’s deadly attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, has devastated the territory, leaving thousands of Palestinians dead and resulting in mass destruction of infrastructure.
