President Trump went to a Sunday evening NFL game featuring the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions, according to pool reports.
A post on the social platform X showed the president on the FOX Sports broadcast talking with commentators about the game.
The president’s visit to the game comes after a report that he was pressing to have the Commanders’ new stadium named after him.
“It’s what the president wants, and it will probably happen,” a source told ESPN.
In July, Trump said he would support changing the Commanders’ name back to a previous name that some found offensive toward Native Americans. However, he suggested that should the Commanders rack up more wins, he would support the current name.
“You want me to make a controversial statement? I would,” Trump told a reporter at the time.
“I wouldn’t have changed the name,” he continued. “It just doesn’t have the same — it doesn’t have the same ring to me. But, you know, winning can make everything sound good. So if they win, all of a sudden the Commanders sounds good.”
Last month, Trump went after the NFL for selecting Bad Bunny, who has previously criticized his administration, as the Super Bowl halftime show performer.
“I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s like, crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter that they hired to pick up entertainment,” the president said.
