Lost art is such a tragic thing. It doesn’t happen as often as it used to, but sometimes footage just gets lost in the move. It turns out that Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare is one of these films. Just like Event Horizon, this iconic film is missing footage that we will likely never see.
However, a new report from Bloody Disgusting can give us some insight into the lost footage. The film’s director, Rachel Talalay, has taken to YouTube to share some news with the masses. Although Talalay can’t find the original edit, she does have pics to prove the alternative ending exists.
In this alternative ending, the evil presence that gave Freddy his dream powers would infect someone else following his death. While this would have left the door open for new films, the crew felt it would be best to let the franchise come to a close.
“What I did find in my archives was proof that we did film the ending per the script. This coda basically had the demons from Freddy going into another boy’s body. The cycle perpetuates.
“We cut the sequence out of the film almost immediately, so we never even tested it. It was pretty much agreed universally that you can’t call the film Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare and have a coda like that. I have screenshots. I must’ve screenshotted it before I lost the footage. Pretty much everyone agreed it was false advertising.” –Rachel Talalay
