The son of Mango fashion tycoon Isak Andic is reportedly being probed as a suspect in the billionaire’s sudden cliff fall death some 10 months ago.
Andic, the founder and owner of the global fashion empire, died after plunging from the cliff near Barcelona while hiking with his family last December.
Despite cops initially indicating his death was likely an accident, multiple local media outlets reported Thursday that his son — Jonathan Andic — is now officially being investigated for possible homicide.
Officials zeroed in on Andic’s son as a potential suspect back in September due to contradictory statements he gave as a witness, the La Vanguardia newspaper reported.
Authorities have been searching the scion’s phone for any potential evidence.
Sources told the El Pais outlet that investigators had come across a “series of clues” that had led them away from a “mere accident.”
His father’s partner had also told authorities that the “the relationship between father and son was bad,” according to the sources.
The Andic family fired off a statement in the wake of the reports, saying they were confident Jonathan played no role in his father’s demise.
“The Andic family has not and will not comment on Isak Andic’s death in all these months,” the statement said.
“However, they wish to show their respect for the ongoing investigations and will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities, as they have done so far. They are also confident that this process will be concluded as soon as possible and that Jonathan Andic’s innocence will be proved.”
Andic, who founded Mango in 1984 and was worth $4.5 billion, died after falling more than 328 ft from the cliff in the Montserrat caves near Barcelona.
Jonathan Andic was appointed vice-president of Mango’s board and president of its holding company MNG. in the wake of his death.
His sisters Judith and Sarah were named as vice-presidents of MNG.
