A former AEW star left the Jacksonville-based promotion this year to join rival promotion, WWE. However, the fans are convinced that Triple H’s creatively led regime has buried him, and they made it clear with their reactions on social media.
The aforementioned star, who is currently a part of the SmackDown roster, is Rey Fenix. His brother, Penta, signed with WWE and debuted on Monday Night RAW in January 2025. The former one half of the Lucha Brothers followed suit and became a part of SmackDown a few months later after departing AEW, following major tensions with the Jacksonville-based promotion.
While Penta has been thriving as a top and regular fixture on RAW, Rey Fenix has not been able to find his spot on SmackDown and has seemingly been lost in the shuffle under Triple H’s creative leadership. This has been unlike his run in All Elite Wrestling, where he wrestled top matches against the likes of Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, and The Young Bucks.
Fans have been noticing it, and it recently exploded on social media. One fan questioned his whereabouts these days, while others linked Fenix and ‘Khanatamo Bay’, a reference to Guantanamo Bay, which fans use online for stars who have not been appropriately booked under Tony Khan.

At the same time, some fans even said that Rey Fenix has already retired at age 34, possibly due to his extended absence from television or poor booking.
Andrade spoke about his alliance with former AEW star Rey Fenix
A prime highlight of Rey Fenix’s WWE run was his brief alliance with Andrade. The former WWE United States Champion said he and Fenix became good friends and always exchanged ideas about doing new things as a team.
“(Fenix) brought out my angel. When we were wrestling, we always talked about stories and what we were going to eat for dinner later. We were always relaxed and thinking about new things to do. We became good friends.” [H/T – WrestlePurists on X]
With the former AEW star absent from WWE television for almost two months, it remains to be seen when he will return.
