A Big Apple-based production company claims “Independence Day” and “Kill Bill” actress Vivica A. Fox accepted tens of thousands to star in a 2024 movie but never actually made it to the film’s set.
Brand New Entertainment estimates in a recent legal filing it’s lost more than $75,000 since Fox, 61, backed out of filming for “The Return of Omotara Jackson,” a planned reboot of the 2008 Nigerian Yoruba drama that starred Bukky Wright as a woman who murders her best friend to steal her lover.
The lawsuit was filed this week in Manhattan Federal Court, and alleges breach of contract and unjust enrichment. It also names Fox’s longtime agent and manager, Sheila Legette, 63.
Legette signed a contract with Brand New Entertainment on Sept. 6, 2024, securing Fox for the lead, the suit contends. Filming was set for Nigeria.
The CarShield spokeswoman accepted an initial $25,000 payment through Legette.
Fox was due to receive another $25,000 upon arriving on set, with an additional $25,000 payable upon completion of the film.
The contract also called for Legette to receive a $7,500 agent fee.
The suit alleges Fox was a no-show even after Brand New Entertainment accommodated her request to move the filming to America.
A total of $250,000 was raised by investors, according to the lawsuit, which further claims Fox and Legette have “categorically refused” to return the $32,500.
Fox’s exit from the project also caused the company “reputational harm and lost business opportunities, all exceeding $75,000 in aggregate.”
They’re asking for the return of the $32,500 and unspecified punitive damages.
Legette and a publicist for Fox did not respond to requests for comment on the suit.
