Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) in a Monday interview explained why he didn’t think Democrats should back the GOP funding measure that would prevent a government shutdown on Wednesday, saying he did not “want to be a consignee to this tyranny” from the government. “Why would we want to continue to be, you know, cosignees on this madness that is hurting our friends and neighbors and making us look less and less like America?” Swalwell told CNN’s Kate Bouldan on “CNN News Central.” “This is a Republican-run government. They have the White House, the House and the Senate. They’ve had plenty…
President Trump said Sunday that a peace deal to end the war in Gaza is in its “final stages,” according to an Axios report. “Everybody has come together to get a deal, but we still have to get it done,” the president said in an interview, according to Axios. Trump said a peace deal would “be the first chance for real peace” in the region, adding, “But we have to get it done first.” On Friday night, the president touted “inspired and productive discussions” surrounding Israel’s war in Gaza. “Intense negotiations have been going on for four days, and will…
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said on Sunday that Democrats have taken “the federal government as a hostage” amid tension over a looming government shutdown. “Thirteen different times, we did continuing resolutions in the Democratic majority. And in every case, they passed,” Thune told NBC News’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press.” “And what the Democrats have done here, is take the federal government as a hostage, and for that matter, by extension, the American people, to try and get a whole laundry list of things that they want, the special interest groups on the far-left are pushing them…
A majority of American voters are pessimistic about freedom of speech being protected, according to a poll released Wednesday. In the survey from Quinnipiac University, 53 percent of respondents said they are “pessimistic” when it comes to freedom of speech being protected in the U.S., while 43 percent said they are “optimistic,” and 3 percent were unsure or did not respond. The same poll notes that nearly 80 percent of those surveyed said the U.S. is in a political crisis. The findings come as controversy swirls over the recent suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel by ABC and its implications…
Former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh (Ill.) slammed Democratic leadership on Tuesday, months after joining the party. “I know I’ve only been a Democrat for three plus months, so if I’m overstepping my bounds here I apologize, but damn…the leadership of my new party just doesn’t f—— understand the threat and isn’t f—— meeting this moment,” Walsh wrote on the social platform X. Walsh’s comments were in response to a clip of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) discussing his approach to combatting President Trump’s agenda as funding negotiations ahead of an Oct. 1 shutdown deadline show little signs of movement.…
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Tuesday that a Russian incursion into NATO airspace is “unacceptable,” only a few days after multiple Russian fighter jets entered Estonian airspace. “Important call yesterday with my Estonian counterpart @HPevkur,” Hegseth said in a post on the social platform X. “The Russian incursion into Nato airspace is unacceptable. The Department of War stands in solidarity with Estonia and commends the rapid, strong allied response.” Last Friday, three Russian fighter jets entered Estonian airspace, an incident that the country’s top diplomat referred to as an “unprecedented and brazen intrusion.” Later that day, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen…
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) quoted the popular Disney+ TV show “Andor” while cheering comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s return to his late-night ABC show. “‘Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that,’” Pritzker said in a post Monday evening on the social platform X, referencing the Disney+ show’s 12th episode of its first season. “Looking forward to seeing Jimmy back on the air,” he added. Pritzker’s quotation of “Andor,” a show with a theme of rebellion against oppressive forces, is notable considering that both ABC and Disney+ are owned by…
Russia and Ukraine exchanged deadly drone strikes ahead of the United Nations General Assembly kicking off in New York this week. “Rescue efforts and rubble clearing continue after the Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia — guided aerial bombs targeted civilian infrastructure, ordinary homes. Fifteen apartment buildings and ten private houses have been damaged,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a post on the social platform X early Monday morning. “As of now, three people are confirmed killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Donetsk, Dnipro, Sumy, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions also came under drone attacks overnight. Over 140…
FBI Director Kash Patel said Sunday that his agency is “meticulously investigating theories and questions” in the investigation into conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s shooting. “The full weight of America’s law enforcement agencies are actively following the evidence that has emerged, but our efforts extend beyond initial findings. We are examining every facet of this assassination,” Patel said in a post on the social platform X on Sunday afternoon. “We are meticulously investigating theories and questions, including the location from where the shot was taken, the possibility of accomplices, the text message confession and related conversations, Discord chats, the angle of…
Estonia said Sunday that the United Nations (UN) Security Council is going to meet after three Russian fighter jets flew into Estonian airspace late this week. “In response to Russia’s blatant, reckless, and flagrant violation of @NATO airspace over Estonia on Friday—when armed MiG-31 fighter jets intruded into our territory for 12 minutes—the @UN Security Council will convene tomorrow, September 22, to address this breach of territorial integrity and the violation of the prohibition on the threat or use of force,” the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the social platform X early Sunday morning. Last Friday, three Russian…
