Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said late Wednesday that the U.S. military conducted another strike against an alleged drug-trafficking boat in the Eastern Pacific, killing three “narco-terrorists.” Hegseth said the vessel was operated by a designated terrorist organization and that the individuals on board were engaged in “narco-trafficking.” It is unclear which designated terrorist organization the defense secretary was referring to. The strike, which took place on Wednesday, was conducted in international waters and no U.S. service members were injured in the operation, according to the defense secretary. “These strikes will continue, day after day. These are not simply drug runners—these…
President Trump tapped Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s top military aide, Army Lt. Gen. Christopher LaNeve, to be the next Army vice chief of staff, replacing Gen. James Mingus, who has been in the post for less than two years. The Senate received LaNeve’s nomination to be the No. 2 Army officer post Monday, according to a congressional notice. He has served as Hegseth’s senior military assistant since April. LaNeve’s new post will need confirmation by the Senate. If confirmed by the upper chamber, LaNeve will replace Mingus, who has been in the role since January 2024. Mingus’s office declined to…
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky argued on Tuesday that President Trump’s decision to refrain from sending long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine deflated Russia’s interest in engaging in diplomacy that could lead to the potential end of the war in Eastern Europe. “The frontline can spark diplomacy. Instead, Russia continues to do everything to weasel out of diplomacy — and as soon as the issue of long-range capabilities for us — for Ukraine — became less immediate, Russia’s interest in diplomacy faded almost automatically,” Zelensky said during his daily video address. “This signals that this very issue — the issue of…
The Trump administration plans to repatriate back to Ecuador and Colombia the two alleged drug traffickers who survived the U.S. military’s recent boat strike in the Caribbean. President Trump announced on Saturday that the two survivors of the Thursday boat strike by U.S. forces, which killed two other “narcoterrorists,” will be transferred over to their countries of origin for “detention and prosecution.” It is unclear if Ecuador and Colombia will prosecute the alleged narcoterrorists or if they will be released. The transfer of the survivors comes after they were detained on Thursday, following the strike, and transferred to a Navy…
A federal appeals court ruled against President Trump on Friday, barring the administration from ending birthright citizenship. The three-judge panel on the First Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a district court injunction that barred the administration from enacting a January executive order, signed by the president, that would curtail birthright citizenship. “The ‘lessons of history’ thus give us every reason to be wary of now blessing this most recent effort to break with our established tradition of recognizing birthright citizenship and to make citizenship depend on the actions of one’s parents rather than — in all but the rarest of…
Several veteran groups are urging Congress to pass a short-term spending measure to avert a potential government shutdown, warning that the GOP-led continuing resolution (CR) contains extensions vital for veterans’ housing, benefits and health care. Four veteran groups — American Legion, AMVETS (American Veterans), Vietnam Veterans of America and Mission Roll Call — said on Saturday that the CR, which passed the House earlier this month, contains “vital extensions” for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that “safeguard” important programs, including the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program and…
Former FBI Director James Comey was slapped with a two-count indictment on Thursday, a development that has consumed Washington but was welcomed by President Trump, administration officials and their allies. The charges come from Comey’s 2020 testimony in front of the Senate when the chamber was investigating probes into alleged ties between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia, which the president has slammed as a “witch hunt.” The indictment against Comey marked the first set of criminal charges against the perceived political foe of the president. Comey proclaimed his innocence late Thursday, saying his “heart is broken” for the Justice Department. …
President Trump said on Saturday morning that he is sending U.S. troops to Portland to “protect” the city and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities from antifa and other “domestic terrorists.” “At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists,” the president wrote in a post on Truth Social. “I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary,” Trump added. “Thank you for your attention to…
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) slammed the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey as a “disgraceful attack on the rule of law” and argued that the criminal justice system has been “viciously weaponized” by the Trump administration. “The indictment of James Comey is a disgraceful attack on the rule of law. Donald Trump and his sycophants in the Department of Justice [DOJ] are completely and totally out of control, and have viciously weaponized the criminal justice system against their perceived adversaries,” Jeffries said in a Thursday night statement. “The malicious prosecution against James Comey has no apparent basis…
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, argued Thursday night that there is “very little chance” that former FBI Director James Comey will ever be convicted after being indicted by a federal grand jury hours earlier. “So the good news is, I think there’s very little chance he could ever be convicted, because it’s so clearly a case of vindictive and selective prosecution, where all of the norms of the rule of law have been suspended, and the president didn’t care about the facts, and the president didn’t care about the law, he just cared…
