John Carpenter wouldn’t have looked totally out of place in a tuxedo during his recent residency at The Belasco in Los Angeles. On the cool night of the Dodgers’ World Series win—which had a few fans half-joking, Would Carpenter end the concert early to catch the game?—Carpenter led the band like he was leading an orchestra… except with devil-horn fingers. Lots and lots of charming, Carpenter-esque devil-horn fingers. It’s a welcome contrast to his self-effacing persona. Read any gem of an interview with Carpenter, and expect him to wave off any suggestion of legendary status or power of influence as…
A New Jersey man who was pardoned by President Trump during the tail-end of his first term was imprisoned again on Friday for his third fraud conviction. Eliyahu “Eli” Weinstein, a 51-year-old man who has also used the alias Mike Konig, was handed down a 37-year sentence in Trenton, NJ on Friday. Prosecutors estimated he milked approximately $35 million from the woefully misguided investors, who Weinstein promised access to deals involving dwindling medical supplies, baby formula and first-aid kits intended to be sent to Ukraine, according to his most recent indictment. Eliyahu “Eli” Weinstein was jailed for his third fraud…

Recently, The Journal of the American Medical Association, one of the most prestigious journals in medicine, published an opinion piece on the use of AI in scientific writing. The author, John Steiner, discussed the perils involved. He talks about how tempting it is for scientists to use AI when they write, given that many of them do not enjoy or feel competent at writing. He mentions that they have been trained in science, not in the humanities, and many have received no formal training in writing….since high school. The problem is that scientists become successful partially by virtue of the…
WASHINGTON — President Trump on Tuesday called for ABC News to lose its license after one of its reporters peppered him with Oval Office questions — including whether his family’s business dealings with Saudi Arabia constituted a conflict of interest. ABC’s Mary Bruce used Trump’s meeting with the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to also ask about the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. “People are wise to your hoax,” Trump said. “Your crappy company is one of the perpetrators. “And I’ll tell you something, I think the license should be taken away from ABC because your news is so fake…
Hey, what are Pinhead and Michael Myers doing in a Disney movie? At this point, it seems like everything that possibly could be said about Hocus Pocus has already been said — like, a billion times over.I mean, I’ve already written at least two or three articles for this very site about the beloved 1993 Disney horror comedy. It’s a cultural text that’s been decoded and deconstructed and dissected so many times it seems a bit fatuous to even think about adding another article to the pile. But hold on, people. I think I’ve got the one fresh angle on Hocus Pocus…
Sarah Ferguson is reportedly “shaken to the core” as she navigates uncertainty amid her royal downfall. On Oct. 30, King Charles III stripped his disgraced brother, Prince Andrew, of his royal titles. He also evicted him from Royal Lodge after weeks of pressure to act over the former Duke of York’s friendship with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The ex-prince shared the 30-room mansion near Windsor Castle with Ferguson, making it their longtime home. She is no longer styled as the Duchess of York and must now find a new home. “She is leaning on trusted staff members,” British broadcaster…
