Firefighters and army helicopters battled a fire Wednesday that burned through a neighborhood in southwestern Japan, killing one person, injuring another and forcing more than 170 people to evacuate. A man in his 70s was unaccounted for and firefighters later found a body, possibly of the missing man, and a woman in her 50s suffered a minor injury, the Oita prefectural disaster response team said. DALLAS — The Islanders were left shaken by Mikko Rantanen’s hit on Alexander Romanov that appeared to cause the defenseman serious injury with 27.3 seconds to go in their 3-2 win over the Stars on Tuesday night, and Patrick Roy blasted the Finn for a move he saw as “disrespectful to our guys.” With Romanov’s numbers facing him and both players going full steam toward the end boards, Rantanen pushed Romanov hard into the glass. Romanov, whose head appeared to hit the boards first, went down in a heap and needed help off the ice. An Islanders spokesman said Romanov…
Glen Powell didn’t want the glitz and glam that comes with living in Hollywood. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair for its 2026 Hollywood Issue, the 37-year-old “Twisters” actor spoke about why he chose to leave Los Angeles and move back to his hometown of Austin, Texas, despite his success. “I needed a spiritual place where I could hang my hat and truly be unplugged,” he said. “If you live in LA … where everyone is sort of a part of this thing, you can’t ever sign off of that app.” It seems Powell moved from one acting hot spot to another,…
When relationships become challenging, we want to understand what’s going on. We look for causes. And most of the time, we become convinced that our loved ones are to blame. We find ourselves thinking, “Our relationship would be easy if it weren’t for you.” We can seem to have become obsessed with identifying whether or not the people in our lives are dysfunctional in some way. Compounding this, many therapists may listen to a client’s hurts, disappointments, dissatisfactions, and anger with loved ones, and then, without ever having met them, offer diagnoses that confirm their clients’ one-sided perspectives: “Your partner/parent/sibling/friend…
LAS VEGAS — The Rangers’ early reputation as road warriors was never going to be sustainable, but it has already begun to wane. Limited to fewer than 20 shots on goal on the road for the first time this season, the Blueshirts offense stalled once again in a 3-2 loss to the Golden Knights on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena. The regulation loss counted as just their second away from Madison Square Garden so far this season, with the prior one coming over three weeks ago in Calgary. Offense has been in short supply for the Rangers as a team…

A massive Florida law enforcement operation led to the recovery of over a hundred missing or endangered children across the state, according to authorities. The two-week statewide “Operation Home for the Holidays” led to the rescue of 122 children between the ages of 23 months and 17 years old, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced in a press conference on Monday — calling it one of the single largest operations of its kind in US history. An Australian man aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise was kicked off the ship, but his family opted to continue their vacation without him after he was booted for an alleged assault against another passenger. When the Nets opened a nine-point lead over the Celtics in the first quarter Tuesday, maybe it seemed possible they’d win consecutive games for the first time this season. And Michael Porter Jr.’s 3-pointer early in the fourth put the Nets up again. But that was the last basket the Nets made until 1:56 to go, as their issues closing out games continued in a 113-99 loss, as even the undermanned Celtics proved to be too much at Barclays Center. Neemias Queta slams home a dunk during the Nets’ 113-99 loss to the Celtics on Nov. 18, 2025 at Barclays…
