A Florida sheriff called an altercation involving a worker and two customers at a McDonald’s in Polk County last weekend a “McMess” after it left one of the men with a minor gunshot wound to the neck. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd explained in a video posted to social media that a McDonald’s in the area had become inundated with online orders after several events in the area let out early Sunday morning. Judd said the worker, Yoan Soto, 21, “politely” told Nicholas Jones, 18, and Peter Story, 20, who had pulled into the drive-thru, “‘Hey, sorry guys, we’re way behind. Our online orders…
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Mason Shipley kicked a 45-yard field goal in overtime and No. 21 Texas beat Kentucky 16-13 on Saturday night, despite a sub-par outing from Arch Manning and the Longhorns defense. Shipley also kicked a 39-yard field goal with a minute remaining to give the Longhorns (5-2, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) a 13-10 lead. Kentucky (2-4, 0-4) tied the score at 13-all on Jacob Kauwe’s 45-yard field goal with 9 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. The Longhorns managed just 179 total yards, but used two big punt returns by Ryan Niblett to hold off the Wildcats.…
Jets coach Aaron Glenn has preached patience recently when it comes to turning the team around. He has emphasized that they need to build a solid foundation before they can win consistently. That message may be one that’s easy to deliver to some, but what about a player like Quinnen Williams? The veteran defensive tackle is in his seventh season and has yet to see the playoffs. Is it tough to tell Williams to have patience? “Those are the hardest conversations to have, especially when you’re talking to a group of young guys and getting them to understand that, man,…
A packed Air China flight bound for Seoul was forced to make an emergency landing in Shanghai on Saturday after a lithium battery inside a passenger’s carry-on luggage erupted in flames, filling the cabin with smoke. The blaze broke out aboard Flight CA139, which had departed Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport at 9:47 a.m. local time with 160 passengers and crew headed to South Korea’s Incheon International Airport, according to statements from the airline and Chinese state media. Air China said in a post on Weibo that “a lithium battery in a passenger’s carry-on luggage stored in the overhead compartment spontaneously…
OTTAWA — Between Ilya Sorokin and the Islanders defense, coach Patrick Roy was not going to point the finger at his goalie on Saturday. “We gave [them] so many chances,” Roy said after the Islanders beat the Senators 5-4. “We gotta be better in front of him.” Undoubtedly, that was true on an afternoon where the Islanders were lucky to escape Ottawa with two points in hand given how poorly they played in their own zone and on the backcheck. Ilya Sorokin makes a save in front of Ottawa Senators right wing Michael Amadio (22) during the Islanders’ 5-4 road…
A noticeably frail Joe Biden was seen in public for the first time since news broke that he is receiving radiation therapy for prostate cancer — as he attended an evening Mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine in Wilmington, Del. on Saturday. The 82-year-old former president left the hour-long service, walking slowly and holding onto a woman for support. A passenger bus in northeastern Brazil crashed into a sand embankment and flipped on its side, killing at least 17 people, authorities said Saturday. The bus was carrying about 30 passengers, police said. The number of injured, who were taken to nearby hospitals, was not immediately clear. The vehicle crashed in Saloá, a city in the state of Pernambuco, and was bound for the city of Brumado, in the neighboring state of Bahia. Police said the driver lost control of the bus, crossed into the opposite lane and hit rocks on the roadside. He then returned to the correct lane…
Late-night host Bill Maher is giving credit “where credit is due,” congratulating President Donald Trump on brokering the Gaza peace deal. Speaking to his audience on HBO’s “Real Time,” Maher acknowledged that Trump accomplished something many thought might be impossible. “I think you’ve gotta give credit where credit is due. I mean, a lot of people tried to pull this off. He did,” Maher said Friday. Earlier this month, the White House finalized an agreement between Israel and Hamas to end years of conflict in Gaza. It was a deal Trump and his team helped broker. Maher, a frequent critic…
The brain and body benefits of holistic practices like traditional martial arts are clear. While earlier research focused more on athletic activities, sport, and competition in adults, more recent work has expanded to adolescents and young and older adults. A key aspect of traditional martial arts training extends beyond just “empty hand” to practice with tools. And by tools, I mean ancient weapons. Yet there has been very little study of this aspect—that is, until now. Tai Chi Chuan and the grand ultimate stick Longfei Cao, Xiaoxiao Dong, Kai Qi, Chunhui Zhou, and Aiguo Chen, representing universities in Poland and…
Russian military forces launched a blistering aerial barrage on Ukraine overnight night killing one and leaving thousands in the dark — hours after President Trump called for peace between the warring combatants. Forces from Moscow largely targeted Ukrainian forces and infrastructure on the front lines and fired roughly 268 guided aerial bombs with each carrying a payload of 3,307 pounds, CNN reported citing the Ukrainian military. One unidentified man was killed in the village of Zelenyi Hair, according to Ukrainian officials. A residential building in Chernihiv is damaged by a Russian strike on Oct. 16.
