The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge opened to traffic for the first time on Sunday — and now claims to be the world’s tallest and largest span bridge in a mountainous area, according to Chinese state media. Located in China’s Guizhou Province, the bridge hangs over the Beipan River and crosses through the Huajiang Canyon. The bridge is reportedly 2,050 feet above the river. It stretches nearly 10,000 feet long, with a main span of about 5,000 feet. Guizhou Highway Engineering Group Company’s chief engineer, Zhang Shenglin, said the bridge spans “earth’s crack.” The bridge, he added, “will showcase China’s engineering capabilities…
When Anthony Volpe was at some of his lowest points this season, Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone each stood behind the shortstop, harkening back to what he did last October as reason to believe he was capable of more. That faith was rewarded in Volpe’s first at-bat. The shortstop, who made a late push to regain his starting job, was responsible for the only bit of Yankees offense on Tuesday night, homering off Garrett Crochet in a 3-1 loss to the Red Sox in Game 1 of their AL wild-card series at Yankee Stadium. “It felt good to put us…
LAS VEGAS — A’ja Wilson scored 35 points and Jackie Young had 32 to lead the Aces back to the WNBA Finals as Las Vegas held off pesky Indiana 107-98 in overtime in the deciding Game 5 of the semifinal series on Tuesday night after the already-depleted Fever lost another star player to injury. The second-seeded Aces, who won the league title in 2022 and 2023, will host the fourth-seeded Phoenix Mercury on Friday in the opener of the best-of-seven championship series. No. 6 seed Indiana made Las Vegas work for it even though the sixth-seeded Fever have been decimated…
An entitled Missouri son is accused of bludgeoning his mother to death with a gardening tool after weeks of “violently” demanding and threatening her to hand over his inheritance. Christian County deputies were called to the home of Carolyn Alling, 65, on Thursday at around 9:30 p.m. in Ozark after her husband requested a well-being check because she had not returned his phone calls throughout the day, Sheriff Brad Cole told KBTX. Officers met with her son, Derrick Alling, upon arrival at the home — about 180 miles southeast of Kansas City — and immediately questioned the 39-year-old about his…
The world has changed. The rules have changed. And many people since Covid appear to ignore the limits that have been set on them—in families, at work, in communities, and anywhere. That’s why my colleague, Ekaterina Ricci, and I co-authored the book SLIC Solutions: Setting Limits and Imposing Consequences in 2½ Steps. Some people ignore the rules and don’t pay attention to the limits that others set on their behavior (we think of them as high-conflict people or HCPs or bullies) unless a meaningful consequence will follow if they violate the limit. HCPs often (but not always) have Cluster B…
Game 1 of this Wild Card Series pivoted on these decisions: Red Sox manager Alex Cora entrusted his ace, Garrett Crochet, to throw a career-high 117 pitches. Yankees manager Aaron Boone pulled his ace, Max Fried, after 102. It was not the only reason the Yankees lost 3-1 on Tuesday night. It was not the lone area of condemnation or concern that immediately put their 2025 season on life support. But it was the most glaring element in why the Yankees need a two-game winning streak against the Red Sox or their season ends and the question if they can…
A reckless 13-year-old from Arizona allegedly drove drunk and flipped a stolen pickup truck during a high-speed wrong-way joyride — that saw the steering wheel ripped clean off in the wreck. The lawless teen, with an 11-year-old passenger, tore down Interstate-40 in Flagstaff at over 100 mph against traffic before crossing to the correct side, slamming into a guardrail, rolling the truck multiple times, and crashing into a tree around 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Police said the underage driver had a blood alcohol content of .183 — more than double the legal limit.…
The Nets constantly plug Drake Powell as the most athletic player in this year’s draft class. He’ll get a chance to prove it, they hope sooner rather than later. After a knee injury robbed Powell of a chance to play in summer league, or even play pickup with his new teammates over the past few months, the rookie wing was finally cleared for full-contact work before Monday’s practice. “[He’s practiced] a few times,” Nets coach Jordi Fernández said. “He’s been doing a great job. His body looks good. Getting ready to better ramp up, and just being cautious. He’s done…
The daughter of a man killed in the grisly mass shooting at a Michigan Mormon church said she looked directly into the eyes of the gunman — and that she forgave him on the spot and was spared her life. Lisa Louis — the daughter of victim Craig Hayden — penned a heart-wrenching letter revealing how crazed gunman Thomas Jacob Sanford approached her as she cowered over her father’s body in the thick of the chaos he caused at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Sunday. “When he came over to me I felt very…
