A reputed Bloods gangbanger was charged Wednesday in a caught-on-video shootout at a Brooklyn hookah lounge that left three dead and 10 others wounded, federal prosecutors said. Elijah “Eli Spice” Roy, 25, an “associate” of the 5-9 Brims Bloods crew, was allegedly part of the crew involved in the deadly shootout with rival gang members at the crowded Taste of the City Lounge on Aug. 17, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York said. “Such a flagrant disregard for human life will not go unpunished and this prosecution underscores the resolve of our office and law enforcement…
The Israeli Navy intercepted the latest flotilla attempting to break the maritime blockade around the Gaza Strip on Wednesday and took Greta Thunberg and other activists into custody. Footage from the scene on the Mediterranean shows the navy vessels intercepting the 47 boats that make up the Global Sumud Flotilla, which organizers say is carrying more than 500 activists, including climate advocate Thunberg. The Swedish activist was seen sitting on the ground as Israeli sailors presented her belongings to her so that she could be taken into custody. Already several vessels of the Hamas-Sumud flotilla have been safely stopped and…
Jazz Chisholm Jr. has never been one to hide his feelings, which is why it was obvious he was upset about not being in the lineup for Game 1 of the wild-card series Tuesday despite trying to say the right things. But when it came down to it, his manager had a simple message before Chisholm got back in the lineup for Game 2. “I don’t need him to put a happy face on it right now,” Aaron Boone said Wednesday afternoon. “I need him to go play his tail off, which I know he’s going to do. Hopefully can…
In our last Forensic View blog post, we saw how anomalies in the human prefrontal cortex can contribute to impulsive behavior, which in turn may contribute to crimes of violence. This is certainly true, and it fits comfortably within an implicit modern view of humanity as quintessentially good. However, since some criminal behaviors (other than crimes for gain, for which the motivations are obvious) do not derive from impulsive failures, we must then seek out additional explanations (e.g., Sharps, 2024). The idea of innate human goodness is central to humanistic psychology, which has descended to some degree from the original…
It has been 13 years since the original V/H/S film shocked audiences with its brutal found footage shorts. Since that time, the franchise has changed considerably from its roots as a dark and disturbing anthology. Now, the franchise is more known for its campy Halloween specials, which come out each year on Shudder. This year’s entry is V/H/S/Halloween, which, as the name suggests, focuses on all things trick-or-treat related. I wouldn’t go so far as to call V/H/S/Halloween a horror comedy. However, this year’s entry is definitely placed on the more goofy end of the spectrum. Once you see the…
Europe is under threat of a hybrid war by Russia and must rearm itself and be prepared for the possibility of an all-out conflict, Denmark’s prime minister warned on Wednesday. Speaking before the European Union summit in Copenhagen, Mette Frederiksen said the continent was facing unprecedented danger following the spate of Russian drones that invaded NATO’s airspace last month, which experts have warned was a tactic to test the bloc’s defenses. “I hope that everybody recognizes now that there is a hybrid war and one day it’s Poland, the other day it’s Denmark, and next week it will probably be somewhere…
Joe, no! Coffee-crazed New Yorkers were left with a case of the java jitters this week after bean juice giant Starbucks suddenly shuttered dozens of local stores — as part of a controversial $1 billion restructuring plan. A whopping 54 Gotham shops out of a total of just under 200 will be wiped off the retail map, according to the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection — leaving plenty of latte lovers across the five boroughs trudging elsewhere for their fix. New Yorkers in need of a new coffee spot as Starbucks shutters dozens of Big Apple stores will find…
The Israeli military has issued a final warning for Palestinians to evacuate Gaza City as its army nears its complete encirclement to fight Hamas, officials said. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the IDF is taking control of the Netzarim Corridor just south of the city, effectively “bisecting” the Gaza Strip as he ordered all civilians to evacuate, the Times of Israel reported. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that the looming assault is the best way to apply pressure to Hamas, which is currently going over President Trump’s cease-fire proposal. “This is the last opportunity for Gaza residents who…
