Now, I understand that Scary Movie hasn’t exactly aged well. However, for a time, the franchise was considered the pinnacle of horror comedy. Following the huge success of Scream, Scary Movie decided to go after the meta horror market as well. However, instead of focusing on the genre as a whole, they went after famous films directly.
Now, after all these years, Scary Movie is trying its hand at meta horror comedy once again. Just as with the original films, this entry will be written by the Wayans Brothers. Scary Movie 6 will even see Anna Faris and Regina Hall back in action. The only question left to answer is, what movies are they going to knock down a peg?
Luckily, ComicBook.com talked with Marlon Wayans about just this subject. According to Wayans: “There are just so many great horror films to pull from that we plan on having a field day.” Wayans also mentions a few films he would like to tackle individually.
“I mean, you know, I’m just a fan of the whole genre. I Know What You Did Last Summer may have something in there. I think the Scream franchise is always a great one. I think Heretic was a wonderful film. Longlegs. Get Out. Nope. There are just so many great horror films to pull from that we plan on having a field day. Sinners.”
Scary Movie 6 will mark the Wayans Brothers’ first return to the franchise since Scary Movie 2. The film is set to release on June 12, 2026.
