The December 19 edition of WWE SmackDown will showcase the fallout from Saturday Night’s Main Event last weekend. Most prominently, it featured John Cena retiring from in-ring competition after losing to Gunther.
Earlier on the card, Cody Rhodes and Oba Femi’s exhibition match ended in a disqualification win for the WWE Champion after Drew McIntyre interfered and attacked Rhodes. While Oba Femi and Cody Rhodes then took out the Scottish Warrior, things took a dramatic turn over the weekend.
Thanks for the submission!
WWE released a special cinematic ‘home invasion’ video where Cody Rhodes broke into Drew McIntyre’s house to attack him. The video also featured Nick Aldis reinstating McIntyre and him getting another shot at the WWE Title. With so much taking place recently, here are four things that could happen on SmackDown tonight.
4. Jade Cargill could get a new challenger
Jade Cargill has been without a clear direction since winning the Women’s Championship from Tiffany Stratton in November. While WWE has teased a feud with United States Champion Chelsea Green, B-Fab, and Michin, none of them have developed any further.
Tonight, The Storm could be confronted by a new challenger to finally give her a proper feud. Perhaps Tiffany Stratton could finally make her return to get her rematch for the title. Alternatively, Jade Cargill could be confronted by her former tag team partner, Bianca Belair, provided she is medically cleared to make her return.
3. Ilja Dragunov could lose the WWE United States Championship
Ilja Dragunov has done an incredible job holding down the SmackDown mid-card, continuing the United States Championship Open Challenge that Sami Zayn reintroduced. He is currently feuding with Tommaso Ciampa, Tama Tonga, and more for the title, and could finally drop it this week.
Perhaps his challenge could be answered by Carmelo Hayes this week, and the former NXT Champion could dethrone Dragunov to win his first main roster singles title.
2. Cody Rhodes could get suspended
One of the conditions that Drew McIntyre made Nick Aldis agree to was that Cody Rhodes would be stripped of the WWE Championship if he laid his hands on the Scottish Warrior. Surprisingly, Rhodes brawled with his rival on his doorstep just minutes later.
Aldis might suspend Rhodes after his attack, acknowledging that the champion crossed a line. Whether or not Rhodes is stripped of the title remains to be seen, especially since there was only a verbal agreement between McIntyre and Aldis about it.
1. Austin Theory could be revealed as Jacob Fatu’s attacker
Jacob Fatu has been off television recovering from an injury since November. The Samoan Werewolf was mysteriously attacked backstage before his WWE Championship number one contender’s match with Drew McIntyre. His attacker has not been identified since then, but things could change this week.
After revealing himself as the masked man at Survivor Series this week on RAW, Austin Theory could make an appearance on SmackDown as well. The former United States Champion could claim responsibility for the attack on Jacob Fatu and could be inserted into a feud with him upon his return.
That said, it remains to be seen how things turn out on the blue brand tonight.
