House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will speak with reporters Wednesday afternoon, a day after Democrats brought in significant wins in key races across the U.S.
From Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s victory over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent and nabbed a last-minute endorsement from President Trump to former Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s win over Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in the gubernatorial race to Rep. Mikie Sherrill’s defeat of Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli in New Jersey’s governor’s race — Democrats’ sweep of the races could weigh heavily on next year’s midterms.
Jeffries’ remarks also come as the government shutdown hit 36 days, making it the longest lapse in funding in U.S. history. While Democrats have leaned heavily on health care demands in exchange for their support, some in the Senate have signaled they are ready to negotiate.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. EST.
