It’s Dart time.
Rookie Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart received support from his nearest and dearest Sunday afternoon for his first NFL start against the Chargers at MetLife Stadium.
As Dart entered for his first offensive series, the CBS broadcast panned to a suite that appeared to feature his family, including mom Kara, cheering him on.
It was a sensational start for Dart and the Giants’ offense, with the 22-year-old quarterback rushing for a touchdown to give the team an early lead. The Giants led 10-3 midway through the second quarter.
Dart, the Giants’ 25th overall selection during the 2025 NFL Draft in April, was announced as the team’s new starting quarterback earlier in the week following three straight losses with Russell Wilson under center.
“I’m excited to get out there on the field, excited to take another step with this team and do everything that we can to win games,” Dart said Wednesday.
Entering the regular season, Dart was named QB2 behind Wilson, whom the team signed to a one-year deal in March.
The Giants also added Jameis Winston to their quarterback room in free agency. Winston, 31, is the third quarterback on the depth chart, with Wilson, 36, now the backup moving forward.
Wilson, who played for the Steelers last season, said Wednesday he is “focused on helping this team win” in his new role.
“I want to be here. I love this organization. I love the process of it all and the guys in the locker room. I’m not giving up on us and this season,” the Super Bowl-winning quarterback told reporters.
The biggest storyline entering the season was just how long the Giants would run with Wilson after Dart impressed in the preseason.
Through three preseason games, Dart threw for three touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also rushed for a score.
Dart’s family was in Buffalo for his first-ever preseason game in August, with mom Kara in attendance.
Kara gained notoriety in the spring after being featured on NFL draft broadcasts when the Giants traded back into the first round to select Dart. The Giants grabbed star linebacker Abdul Carter with the third overall selection.
The Chargers entered Sunday’s game at 3-0, while the Giants are searching for their first win at 0-3.
