The Boy from Below is an indie horror movie that brings back the retro feel of a horror section in a 1990’s video store.
The movie features Leah Voysey (Terrifier 2), Chaney Morrow (Haunt), Spencer Madison (Phantom Fun-World), Kamarra Cole (Time’s Up), and Cameryn Zupon (Angel).
The movie also spotlights horror veterans Tommy Lee Wallace (Halloween 3: Season of the Witch), Dee Wallace (Cujo), and Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp).
The Plot
Carpenter Falls is your typical small New England town, except for one small detail. The town is home to B movie Scream Queen, Marilyn Leigh Miller. Miller met a tragic end when she took her own life. Her suicide sent her 15 year old son into a rage and initiated his killing spree. He murdered his uncle and his entire family before disappearing.
Decades later, the town still cannot escape the bloody past that stains their once idyllic home. Now the legend is about to continue.
On this particular Halloween, evil comes knocking in the form of a murderous psychopath wearing a scarecrow mask. Over the course of his massacre, apparent ties to Marilyn Leigh Miller are revealed.
In a town that celebrates scary movies, a horrific plot is about to unfold. Will they survive this holiday, or will they become part of Carpenter Fall’s bloody history?
The Journey Behind the Scenes
The Boy from Below is a re-telling of director Tory Jones 2017 film, The Wicked One. Jones told JoBlo that he wanted to create “a new slasher character reminiscent of the horror heavyweights of films past.”
Over the course of its introduction into the horror world, The Wicked One paid its dues in the indie film circuit world. Along the way it accumulated awards, praise, and a fan following.
In 2016, Wicked One premiered at Fright Night Film Festival. The movie sold out to a crowd of 600 movie aficionados and received 6 awards. From there, it was released in 2017 domestically by Petri Entertainment where it continued to amass fans.
After its success, Jones made a follow up entitled Wicked Ones.
After all of this time, it has all led up to this moment for Jones. With the triumph of his previous two movies, Jones now can make the movie he calls “…the Wicked One movie fans deserve and I’ve always wanted to make.”
The accomplishment of the prior two movies has established himself among the genre, earning him a real budget to work with. He confirms with JoBlo The Boy from Below is not a remake of his previous films, but rather a retelling of his original story with more money to fund his vision, as well as talented actors and crew. His goal is to bring forth a new and original character to break through the mainstream and live among the legends of the genre.
Will we see the mask from The Boy from Below in Halloween stores next to Michael Myers and Leatherface one day? Only time will tell!
