Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Thursday said Israeli strikes on Hamas leaders in Doha “killed any hope” of releasing hostages.
Six people were killed in the strikes, according to The Associated Press.
Al Thani told CNN he met with the families of Hamas hostages, who said they have “no other hope” for a ceasefire following the attack.
“I think that what Netanyahu has done (Tuesday), he just killed any hope for those hostages,” he said.
The U.N. Security Council has condemned the Israeli strike, as have many former U.S. national security officials.
“The president views Qatar as a strong ally of the United States. He feels very badly about the location of this attack,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters Tuesday.
“He assured them [Qatar] that such a thing will not happen again on their soil,” she continued.
Netanyahu stood behind the strike on Wednesday.
“I say to Qatar and all nations who harbor terrorists, you either expel them or you bring them to justice,” Netanyahu said Wednesday. “Because if you don’t, we will.”
An Arab-Islamic summit will take place in Doha next week to discuss the strike.
Israeli firms have now been barred from participating in the Dubai Air Show in November by the United Arab Emirates as Netanyahu continues to obliterate the Gaza Strip.
In an effort to end the violence, the European Union has pledged to place sanctions and additional restrictive measures on Israel in an abrupt push for peace.
Canada, France and Britain have also moved to recognize Palestine as an official state in direct opposition to Netanyahu’s stance on the nation’s sovereignty.
